Description:
V-rings are axial seals and are made of elastomers or thermoplastics.
They consist of a sealing body, sealing lip and joint with the typical V-shaped cross-section profile.
Where are V-rings used?
V-rings complement and combine other types of seals, such as shaft seals. They are
often also used as an additional sealing element in bearings. V-rings protect against
dirt, dust, water and oil splashes from the outside.
V-rings can be used in almost all industries. Examples include: plant
and mechanical engineering, drive technology, automotive industry, gear technology,
rolling mills, bearing pedestals and agricultural machinery.
Mode of action and function of the V-ring
V-rings act both as a slinger ring and as a lip seal. V-rings rotate with
the shaft and must be mounted exactly with the other running surface. The running surface can
be a bearing head, a housing or another suitable running surface. The V-ring develops its sealing
effect axially on the running surface. With increasing rotation of the shaft, the lip expands,
due to the centrifugal force, until it finally only acts as a slinger disc
and gap seal.
