The 12X cables can carry data and control information. The SPCN cables can only carry control
information.

The 12X cables of an I/O expansion unit are connected to a pair of 12X cables on the system unit
The 12X connector pair is located on a plug-in card in the system unit
or is mounted directly on the chassis of the system unit. In both cases, the connectors are wired
to an I/O hub chip that drives the 12X protocol. The plug-in cards are referred to as GX adapters
or GX cards.
