CISCO AIRONET 1232G AIR-AP1232AG-E-K9 Wireless
Access point of the Cisco Aironet 1200 series
The Cisco Aironet® 1200 series access point sets the enterprise standard for secure,
manageable and reliable wireless LANs (WLANs) while providing high investment protection
and the foundation for a smooth migration to future high-speed wireless LAN technologies.
The Cisco Aironet 1200 series provides a wireless infrastructure that enables users
maximum mobility and flexibility - they can access all network resources from virtually any
wireless-enabled location.
The Cisco Aironet 1200 series protects both current and future investments in network infrastructure.
The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) 802.11b-compliant access point already supports
data rates up to 11 Mbps today and is ready for the upcoming IEEE 802.11a standard
as well as future WLAN technologies. The modular design of the Cisco Aironet 1200 series
enables both single-band and dual-band configurations and supports on-site upgrades of these
configurations as user requirements change or new technologies become available. A single Cisco Aironet 1200 series
access point can be equipped with one transmitter for 802.11b clients and another for 802.11a high-speed clients.
Security is a key concern in wireless LANs. The Cisco Aironet 1200 series' answer to this
is the award-winning Cisco Wireless Security Suite - this software based on the IEEE 802.1X standard
and the Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) provides a solution especially for enterprise customers (see Figure 2).
The Cisco Aironet 1200 series supports all 802.1X authentication types such as EAP Cisco Wireless (LEAP),
EAP-TLS and other EAP-TLS based types. Combined with a RADIUS (Remote Access Dial-In User Service) server
supporting the same authentication types, e.g. Cisco Secure Access Control Server (ACS),
this results in a scalable, centrally managed security solution with the following benefits:
• Unique, mutual authentication to ensure that only legitimate clients can connect with legitimate and authorized access points -
the respective dynamic encryption keys per user and per session can be set to change automatically at regular intervals,
in order to ensure the confidentiality of the transmitted data.
• More unique WEP keys are provided through extensions of the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) such as Message Integrity Check (MIC)
and per-packet keys via Initialization Vector Hashing and RADIUS protocols for all authentication attempts.
