Chemagen chemagic Magnetic Separation Module I
The chemagic Magnetic Separation Module I (chemagic MSM I) automatically isolates nucleic acids within one hour. Viral RNA from 96 nasal swabs can be isolated simultaneously.
The Chemagen MSM-1 is an automated system for high-throughput isolation of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA).
It uses a patented Magnetic Bead Technology, in which magnetizable metal rods are immersed in the process solutions to efficiently collect and resuspend the bound particles.
Technical Features & Capacity
Throughput: The system is modularly designed and can process 12, 24, or 96 samples simultaneously depending on the rod head used.
Sample volume: It offers high flexibility for volumes from 10 µl to 10 ml.
Processing time:
96 samples (small volumes): approx. 15–60 min.
24 samples (medium volumes): approx. 35–60 min.
12 samples (large volumes): approx. 45–60 min..
Technology: Resuspension of the particles is achieved by rotation of the metal rods at up to 2,000 rpm, enabling high yield and purity without cross-contamination.
System Components & Expansions
Automation: The MSM-1 can be integrated into standard liquid handling units and often features a 6-axis industrial robot for fully automated
sample tracking.
Software: The system is controlled via the chemagic QA Software, which is LIMS-compatible.
Applications
The device is primarily used in research and diagnostic fields, including:
Biobanking and human genetics
HLA typing
Detection of viruses and bacteria
Extraction from various materials such as whole blood, saliva, serum, or plasma
System Components
Actuators: High-precision linear axes for vertical movement and a rotational axis for mixing
Electromagnet: Central unit for controlling magnetic attraction at the metal rods
Interfaces: Integrated PC with monitor, keyboard, and barcode scanner for sample tracking
Software: chemagic QA Software (LIMS-compatible, logging, user management)
Special Features
Cross-contamination protection: The use of disposable protective sleeves (Tip Combs) for the metal rods prevents contact between samples.
Automation: Can be combined with the chemagic Dispenser for automated buffer filling or integrated into liquid handling robots (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan).
