BAC S1500E Cooling Tower
The BAC S15E 1018-10-LE is a high-performance open cooling tower from the S1500E series by Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC).
This specific model is designed for industrial cooling applications and large HVAC systems, where high efficiency and ease of maintenance are the top priorities.
Technology
Patented BACross III fill system, which allows easy inspection of the fill media to prevent biological growth (e.g. Legionella).
Key Features of the S1500E Series
Maintenance Access: A large, inward-swinging access door and internal maintenance platforms allow technicians to carry out inspections comfortably while standing inside the unit.
Hygiene Control: The design minimises standing water and protects against sunlight through special air inlet elements, reducing algae growth.
Flexibility: The single-sided air inlet allows the cooling tower to be installed in confined spaces or directly against walls.

Cooling Capacity
An open evaporative cooling tower does not have a fixed, single kW cooling capacity, as the actual performance depends entirely on the thermodynamic ambient conditions and system temperatures.
The model is designed for maximum flow rates of up to 198 litres per second.
Under typical industrial or HVAC standard conditions, the nominal cooling capacity of this model ranges from approximately 1,200 kW to 2,100 kW
Why does the cooling capacity vary?
The wet-bulb temperature (outdoor air): The cooler and drier the ambient air, the more water can evaporate and the higher the cooling capacity.
The water temperatures: Performance changes significantly depending on which hot water temperature enters (e.g. 35 °C) and which cold water temperature exits (e.g. 29 °C)
The air volume flow: According to BAC's technical data, the S15E 1018-10 LE model actively moves 60.0 m³/s of air through three installed 11.0 kW fan motors.
If this air volume is reduced by a frequency converter (e.g. during night operation or in winter), the cooling capacity decreases in a controlled manner.
The approach: This is the most important thermodynamic limit. It describes the difference between the desired cold water temperature and the physically set wet-bulb temperature. The closer the cold water is to be cooled to the wet-bulb temperature (smaller approach), the fewer kW of capacity the tower can achieve.
