Resistor

Braking resistors are used in resistance brakes to convert the electrical power of the drive motors, which are connected as generators, of electric or diesel-electric traction vehicles or trolleybuses into heat. The braking resistors can be mounted on the roof, in the passenger compartment or under the vehicle.[1] For cooling, braking resistors are either equipped with their own fans or they are self-ventilated.
